University of Texas at Austin

Description

Fixed-Bid Design-Build Project to supply both a Gas & Plunger Lift combination and a Progressive Cavity Pump Demonstration Well to the University of Texas at Austin for Undergraduate Petroleum Engineering Studies. These Wells are used by students to study Artificial Lift technology (course PGE 379 Artificial Lift).

  • Review of University specifications for Demo Well performance. Preparation of design layout considering locations of existing laboratory equipment & utilities, well pressure requirements, student visibility & safety requirements, maximization of available real-world oilfield equipment.
  • Prepared detailed installation drawings to illustrate all system piping, outer casing and inner tubing supports, features for servicing all devices attached to inner tubing, pressure & flow monitoring instrumentation. Reviewed detailed drawings & component selection with University Faculty & Staff.
  • Identified and ordered commercially-available components, Created design drawings & worked with machine shops on fabrication of custom parts, procured & welded various cross-over couplings to adapt from oilfield fittings to standard pipe fittings.
  • Pharmaceutical Solutions Batch Tank Installations (2) Replacements (4)
  • Worked on-site doing demo well & support equipment installation, hydrostatic testing, & functional demonstrations to University Faculty & Staff.

Deliverables

Two fully functional demonstration wells with all support equipment, As-Built Design Drawings, Technical Specs for Critical Components, Rigging & Lifting Accessories for servicing both wells.
